Communicative Development Inventory for Turkish Sign Language (TID)
Beyza Sümer
The MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory (CDI) is a checklist where parents documents the words and phrases their child comprehended and produced by their child at the earliest stages of language development. So far, this tool has been adapted for more than 60 languages but only two sign languages. The aim of this project is to create a CDI for Turkish Sign Language, the third in it's kind in the whole world.
Furthermore, TID-CDI is the first that will be administered online rather than on pen-and-paper format. Deaf parents with deaf children aged 8-36 months have been invited to visit the test website which includes videos of 500 TID signs, and indicate which of them are being produced and understood by their child.
This project is supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tubitak) for two years (2015-2017), and being done in collaboration with Prof Aylin Kuntay at the Psychology Department at Koc University.
